Privacy Policy

Wayve (“Wayve”, “we”, “us”) is a travel companion for planning trips, capturing memories, and exploring Ghana together. This policy explains what information we collect when you use the Wayve mobile app and website (the “Service”), how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to joinwayve.com and the Wayve apps.
The short version
- We collect what we need to run your account, your trips, and your subscription — not more.
- We do not track your device’s location, and we do not use third-party advertising or analytics trackers.
- We never see or store your full card number — payments are handled by Paystack.
- Some features send specific content to service providers to work (for example, text you translate goes to GhanaNLP, and trip details you ask our AI about go to an AI provider). We list every provider below.
- You can delete your account; after a 30-day grace period it is permanently erased.
Information we collect
Account information
When you sign up we collect your name, email address, and password, or — if you sign in with Google — your name, email address, and profile photo as shared by Google. Authentication is handled by Supabase; we never see your password in plain text, and Google sign-in shares only your basic profile. You can optionally add a phone number, which we use only for SMS notifications about your subscription.
Travel preferences
During onboarding you can tell us your traveler type (for example diaspora, tourist, or local), preferred regions, trip vibes, and travel group. We use these to personalise suggestions.
Content you create
- Moments and trips — titles, descriptions, notes, dates, and cover images.
- Photos — images and captions you or your crew add to a moment.
- Crew chat — text messages exchanged with your trip companions.
- Expenses — descriptions, amounts, categories, splits, and receipt images you upload.
- Places — places you contribute to the community map.
- Feedback — reports you send us, including any attachments and the page you sent them from.
Payment information
Subscriptions are processed by Paystack. We receive and store your subscription plan, amounts paid, currency, billing period, and a tokenised payment reference issued by Paystack. We never receive or store your full card number.
Technical information
We keep server logs and an internal audit trail of administrative actions (which records IP addresses) for security. We do not embed third-party analytics or advertising SDKs in the app.
What we deliberately do not collect
- Device location. The app does not request GPS or location permissions. Maps show the locations of places, not of you.
- Your contacts, calendar, or files beyond what you explicitly attach.
- Advertising identifiers or cross-app tracking data.
How we use your information
- To operate your account, moments, crew features, and subscriptions.
- To personalise place and itinerary suggestions based on your stated preferences.
- To send transactional email (invitations, subscription receipts and reminders) and, if you added a phone number, SMS about billing.
- To keep the Service secure, prevent abuse, and comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
AI features
When you use Wayve’s AI features — place suggestions, itinerary generation, trip summaries, trip chat, and photo stories — the relevant content (your stated preferences, trip details, places, dates, captions, and the messages you type to the assistant) is sent to our AI providers (Google Gemini and/or OpenAI) to generate a response. Your AI conversations are stored with your trip so you can revisit them. We do not send your photos’ image files to AI providers for these features, and we do not use your content to train our own models.
Translation and speech
The Translate feature is powered by Khaya AI (GhanaNLP). Text you translate or ask to hear aloud is sent to GhanaNLP to produce the translation or audio, and if you use speech input, your voice recording is sent to GhanaNLP for transcription. Generated pronunciation audio may be cached on our servers so common phrases play instantly; this cache contains the phrase text and audio, not your identity.
Who we share information with
We share personal information only with the service providers below, only to run the Service:

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of Wayve, our users, or others.
Sharing within your crew
Wayve is built for travelling together. Content you add to a shared moment — photos, chat messages, expenses, notes — is visible to the other members of that moment. Places you contribute to the community map are public. Choose what you share accordingly.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your information while your account is active. When you delete your account, it is deactivated immediately and permanently erased after a 30-day grace period (which lets you change your mind by contacting us). Some records we are legally required to keep — such as payment records — may be retained longer. Messages you delete from crew chat are removed from view immediately.
To delete your account or request an export of your data, use the options in Settings or email hello@joinwayve.com.
Your rights
Wayve is operated from Ghana, and we handle personal data in line with the Ghana Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843). Wherever you are, you can ask us to:
- access a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
- correct inaccurate data;
- delete your data (see above);
- object to or restrict certain processing.
Email hello@joinwayve.com and we will respond within a reasonable time. If you are in a jurisdiction with additional rights (such as the EU/UK GDPR), we will honour those rights too.
Security
All traffic to Wayve is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Passwords are handled by Supabase Auth and never stored by us in plain text. Payment credentials are tokenised by Paystack. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.
Children
Wayve is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
